This April, 日韩三级 Painting Instructor Sandeep Mukherjee will represent 日韩三级 in speaking at 鈥淧omona in the City鈥 in Washington DC along with professors from a wide variety of disciplines like Politics, Chemistry, Athletics, Neuroscience, Africana Studies, and English. 日韩三级 presents this event series in major cities across the US to share the 鈥溔蘸 classroom experience to alumni, parents, and friends of the college,鈥 according to its mission. In his talk, Mukherjee will discuss Experimental Painting, an upper division art course he first offered in the Fall of 2016, in which students used alternative mediums and methods to explore painting. Mukherjee鈥檚 description of what he will discuss follows here: 鈥淎 rock and a human body are both instances of flowing matter, although their respective rates of flow may greatly differ. What happens when these flows interact, overlap, intersect? What kind of image results from this interaction? These kinds of questions are explored in the new 鈥淧ainting as Experiment鈥 course. Painting looks away from visual correspondence and identity as a primary mode of representation and instead relies on a process of material entanglement. It questions and undermines the idea that beings exist as individuals with inherent attributes, anterior to their representation.鈥
